Therapeutic Group Homes

As clients move through their treatment journey, it is critical that individualized treatment plans provide an opportunity to practice and generalize skills in less restrictive environments that have similarities to their homes and communities.

Mingus Mountain Youth Treatment Center operates two therapeutic group homes, which are located in Prescott Valley area. The group homes provide a safe and nurturing environment from which each client may begin the transition back to her home community. Group home clients are provided an opportunity to practice their newly developed social, emotional, and educational skills in the community through jobs and volunteer work. Clients may also continue to attend classes and special weekend activities on the Mingus campus. The group home program plays a vital role with transitioning clients from the main campus. It can also serve as a stand-alone program for girls who have recently completed treatment elsewhere and need a step-down environment before returning home.

The focus at the group home level is on improving interpersonal skills while maintaining appropriate, acceptable and positive behavior. In addition, clients are supported in learning independent living skills.

Some of the skills learned are:
  • Shopping for and preparing meals
  • Completing household tasks such as cleaning, laundry, small repairs, painting
  • Maintaining the yard, plants, and flowers
  • Developing job preparation skills including mock interviews
  • Obtaining employment in the community
  • Effectively managing money
